What has happened to White?

Posted by jrod on under VIC | 2 Comments to Read

When Cameron White was a Victorian player, he was a great captain.

Everyone loved him.

Some senior players had the odd problem with his people management, but on the field, he was grand.

White was born with a tactically aware cerebrum, he was one of those players who would stick his hand up his ass, and find a wicket.

Even other states thought he was a good captain.

He was part of a short long line of good victorian captains, Simon O’Donnell, Dean Jones, Darren Berry and Shane Warne (for his hometown of Hampshire) that were changing the perception that Victoria captains are rubbish.

White seemed to have a bit of all of these former leaders, SO’D's ability to change the gme with bat or ball, Deano’s confidence, Chuck’s popularity amongst the group, and Warne’s charisma.

Now, the tide seems to be turning.

There can only be one reason, R Ponting.

What else could have happened?

Cam has been spending alot of time with Ponting.

He has become a tactical consultant to Ricky, and they have spent times laughing, and crying together.

And look what has happened?

White has come back to us, damaged, average, and crappy.

There can be only one reason, he has been Pontified.

Victoria takes on the IPL

Posted by jrod on February 21, 2008 under NSW, VIC, WA | 2 Comments to Read

According to economists the market is the true indicator of life itself.

I think most economists are massive wankers, but since this theory suits my theory I am willing to use it.

According to the IPL auction David Hussey and Cameron White are worth more than Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting.

Don’t give me any of that that’s because they might not be available for the whole tournament, cause neither will Brett Lee, and he still got a big bag of cash.

So the Market forces have spoken, Future PM comes in for his Brother King Probot, and Cam comes in as skipper ahead of Michael Clarke.

Simon Katich should continue to be ignored.

Ok perhaps this is a bit extreme, except the Krab Katrich bit.

But it does show the Victoria do have cricketers (and coaches) who are in demand, not in Australia, but internationally.

Even the ICL gave Ian Harvey a new mansion.

Offcourse not all Victorians were given cash, Brad Hodge was overlooked altogether.

Bradley will be picked up soon, because Loots Bosman and Ramesh Powar are playing but what about other Victorians.

Dirty Dirk Nannes – best 2020 domestic bowler, plus would be a great bollywood villain, starting price 800,00. But will need time off for snow boarding.

Andrew McDonald – Capable with either instrument, one of the most talented all rounders in the world. Also great marketing opportunity for McDonalds in India. 650,000.

Aiden Blizzard – ADD afflicted opening batsmen that has hit balls out of the Waca and radelaide oval. Headlines are easy to write. 575,000.

Bryce McGain – Blue Rinse leg spinner of unmeasurable talent. Probably the greatest leg spinner of all time, wait I’ll check, yup, best I can remember. IT specialist as well, they will come in handy in India. 525,000.

Adam Crosthwaite – improvising batsmen, and talented keeper. If not selected for his playing ability should get the nod for his commentary. 450,000.

Shane Harwood – if the IPL turns into the wrestling showcase it wants to be, who better than Harwood as the fast bowler who hates everyone, assuming he stays fit. 425,000.

Ken Piesse – with this many Victorians over there, they will need a proper cricket journalist, and who else but Ken. 150,000.

Jrod – I have already applied as chief blogger of the IPL. 900,001.

Kumar sarna, red hair and big bash

Posted by jrod on December 31, 2007 under NSW, QLD, VIC | Read the First Comment

I feel bad I haven’t written anything on here for a while, but it’s been a bit of a dead period for state cricket of late.

I did see that Victoria got 5 boys in the Australian under 19 side, including the favourite cricketer of all Indian born Australians Kumar Sarna. Also picked was the fast bowling Pattison who’s brother played for Victoria. 3 other guys were picked, whom I don’t know, but well done all the same.

Kumar Sarna generates more hits on my blog than Ricky Ponting, don’t make me explain the power of cricket in India.

Last night the bushrangers won their 2020 game against Queensland deep in the heart of New Texas. The red knobbed McDonald had a cracker of a game with 3 wickets for 22 and a lazy 40odd.

If only we can petition CA to dump all other forms of cricket. Victoria could make it 3 2020 big bash championships on the trot. If they win 9 on the trot, that will be the equivalent of beating the NSWelsh at the SCG in a shield game.

If Victoria does win again does that mean we can get KFC to stop showing those horrible un lip synced ads.

I am actually going to pop in for a 2020 big bash (seriously sh1te name) game or two. The Vics host the NSWeslhman on the 6th and tassie on the 8th.

I’ve never been to a 2020 game, but I am interested to see if they have dancing girls.

I like dancing girls.

Bryce McGain – International Man of Mystery

Posted by jrod on December 4, 2007 under VIC | 3 Comments to Read

Apparently there are whispers around the traps that Cricket With Balls Own Bryce McGain could be a dark horse to play for Australia.

And no I didn’t start them myself, because although I think it’s a good idea, I didn’t want to be the one to jinx him. So now that it’s already circulating, I can comment without guilt.

Over at Are you a left arm chinaman they asked a rather long winded yet eloquent question about Our Bryce. So I will try and answer it as best I can.

We all know Bryce McGain is older than Jesus, but Jesus was a wicketkeeper, and they generally have to retire at a younger age. Problems with their hands and such.

Leg spinners, with the exception of Warne and now MacGill, age exceptionally well, and no one has aged better than Our Bryce.

So lets look at his chances of playing:

The positives

Is he bowling well enough to play for Australia, fu©k yeah.

Very rarely these days do Australian spinners dominate domestically. Funky was the last who springs to mind. Bryce is continually taking wickets, and getting out good batsmen, what more can the selectors ask for?

He is on track for a 40 wicket season, thems good numbers and he is bowling with the leading wicket taker in the competition at the other end.

He is the only man to derail Simon Katich this year, who as we know, is a good player of leg spin (for a crab).

Where is the first test again, oh that’s right, his home ground, boom.

He has experience on his side, not so much first class experience, but life experience that only elderly gentleman can have.

He knows his craft inside and out, and he isn’t some part timer who happens to get wickets.

There isn’t much footage of him, so who ever India’s coach ends up as, he won’t have much to go on.

He generally seems like a nice guy (how else could he become Cricket with balls Own), and since in my life I have had negative experiences with the two other alternatives, I would say he is the nicest option.

Right at the moment he is hardly bowling a bad ball, his length and flight were flawless against the New South Welshman.

Stuart MacGill is falling apart.

He can bowl all day, which against the Indians could come in handy.

The Negatives

Stuart MacGill has 200 test wickets, Brad Hogg has been playing international cricket for a long time now.

Playing your first test against India when you’re a leg spinner is like sending a goalie out to face Brazil on his first International. Laxman, Dravid, Tendulkar & Dhoni, oh my.

He has played only ten first class games, half of them this year.

Brad Hogg has taken less wickets this year than McGain, but he does have the superior average and strike rate.

He is from Victoria, so he has the wrong shade of blue cap on his head.

Shaun tait is back baby, and he so wants to knock off some Indian scalps.

Ponting likes class players, and what Ponting wants Ponting often gets. Ponting wants MacGill, if MacGill isn’t fit, then it shall be interesting to see what Ponting wants.

He is the same age as the two alternatives, so it may be fresh blood, but it aint young blood. Even if he is well preserved.

I like him, so like Craig Howard and Ian Harvey before him, that weight could be the one to sink him.

The Verdict

There are very few surprises when it comes to selection these days in Australia. Other than Shane Watson. In general the Australian selectors play it safe, Bryce is not the safe option. Kerry O’Keefe is talking him up, so now all he needs is Terry Jenner, Ian Chappell and a Rupert Murdoch paper on his side and he is really no chance.

I want to believe they are thinking of him as a realistic option, but I just can’t see him getting picked. I think if MacGill is fit, Ponting will demand him, and if not, they’ll take the man they know over the man they don’t.

But aint it nice to be mentioned.

Update, MacGill is out for the first 2 tests. It’s down to Tait (pontings bag man in the wc), Hogg (the semi logical choice) or McGain (Cricket with balls Own). The choice is obvious.
