The insignificant current Australian players of the IPL

Posted by jrod on May 26, 2009 under NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC, WA | Read the First Comment

Moises Henriques – Kolkata
38 runs @ av 19 sr 95 hs 30*
2 wickets @ 53 econ 8.79 bb 1/32

No one could quite understand how he kept getting a game, or the new ball. Is a very talented young kid, but maybe, just maybe, he should perform at the level below before he is given an opportunity.

David Hussey – Kolkata
98 runs @ av 24 sr 166 hs 43
0 wickets econ 8.5

Came late onto a ship that had already sunk, and decided to swing away. Looked in top touch, but kept getting out after amazing starts. Had a way better strike rate than McCullum or Gayle.

Lee Carseldine – Rajasthan
81 runs @ av 20.25 sr 119 hs 39
1 wicket @ 6 econ 6 bb 1/6

Came in first game and just smacked the ball everywhere when no one else could get the ball off the square, sadly that was about all he did in the tournament. Interestingly only bowled one over.

Rob Quiney - Rajasthan
103 runs @ av 14.7 sr 100.98 hs 51

Hit his first ball in the IPL for 6, then went out. Only really got two starts, and showed glimpses of his talent, but good spinners slowed him down or got him out. Hopefully he has learnt some good lessons, and will be able to score more consistently for Victoria.

Shane Harwood – Rajasthan
9 runs (no outs) sr 62 hs 6*
3 wickets @ 24.3 econ 7.30 bb 2/25

Only played 3 games, but did look dangerous. Rajasthan were more worried with making runs so he and Morne spent most of their time on the bench.

Luke Ronchi – Mumbai Indians
0 runs from 1 game

Sachin went into panic mode about half way through the tournament and threw Luke one game. He was run out for a duck.

Simon Katich – Punjab
145 runs @ av 16 sr 123 hs 50

His 50 was sensational, as good as I have seen the krab time the ball, but struggled other than that. 2020 really wasn’t made for him, and had his coach not been Moody, I doubt he would played too often.

George Bailey – Chennai
45 runs @ av 22.5 sr 115 hs 30

In both of his innings he looked in top form, and in both of them he ran himself out. The good news was smilin’ George looked completely at home at this level of cricket.

Andrew McDonald - Delhi
3 runs @ av 3 sr 75 hs 3
0 wickets (3 overs) econ 7.33 bb 0/22

Only played the one game when Delhi were resting players, and got a sensational Yorker from Anil Kumble.

Luke Pomersbach – Punjab
41 runs @ av 10.25 sr 83 hs 26

Looked out of touch, and small. When Luke is at his best he looks like a Hayden type bully, here he looked like a mouse imitating a flea.

Vics shut the door on New Texas, then open it and invite them in

Posted by jrod on March 13, 2009 under QLD, VIC | Be the First to Comment

I think it’s safe to say that Victoria did not throw off any skeletons on day one of the shield final.

At the moment the skeletons are standing behind them with their pants down.

They were 2 for 236.

Game over.

Fuck off Queensland, the Vics have this.

Then a classic Victorian collapse.

Apparently it was so beautiful that Ken Piesse had a tear in his eye.

By stumps Andrew Symonds had 3 wickets and the Vics were 6 for 281, and New Texas were more than in the game.

I said this last year, and i will recycle it, if you are playing an away shield final all you can ask for is at the close of day one you still have a chance to win.

New Texas do.

Victoria even compounded the mini failure by giving a bat to Dirty Dirk Nannes, and sending him out to bat.

Fucking stupid mother fucking ass clowns.

Dirk can’t bat, sorry Dirk, but he can’t.

And nightwatchmen are a stupid fucking theory anyway.

4 balls he lasted.

It gives New Texas more momentum, and more people, like me, will start talking about the Vics exceptional skill at fucking up in finals.

Fuck.

Sorry, some good things happaned as well.

The Future PM David Hussey is back baby, he made a hundred, it has been a long time since his last one, but he saved it for the right time.

At the other end Chris Rogers just put his shoulder into it again, the man is made of runs this year.

With Marcus North in the national side, Western Australia have really missed a trick there.

6 wickets is a good start for New Texas, but Matthew Wade has made two hundreds on the trot, Cam made one last week, and doesn’t mind batting against Queensland.

Also Damien Wright is still to come, and he has beenpissing off shield teams all season with the bat.

None of this matters right now, as it is pissing down.

Really fucking pouring.

At best they look like losing most of the day.

At worst the hole day.

What is even worse for Queensland is that this might liven up the pitch, and you don’t really want a lively pitch if the oppisition has over 300 on the board and has the most potent attack in shield cricket.

And Dirty Dirk might be pissed at being forced to bat.

Bow down before us

Posted by jrod on March 8, 2009 under QLD, VIC | Be the First to Comment

Victoria has not lost a point in the Shield this year.

Pause for gasp.

That is some sort of season, and as far as I can tell, this may be the first time in history that a team has down this.

This is not the best year for shield teams, South Australia, NSWales, and New Texas have L plates on.

Western Australia have completely imploded, and Tasmania don’t seem to be able to get the most out of their vast talent pool.

On paper, I picked Queensland to come last this year, next week they play off in the final.

This latest game has shown how much better Victoria are than the second best team, and last week they showed how much better they were than the third best team.

Bowling New Texas out for 300, and then making over 800.

800, huge numbers.

This is a classy line up.

Brad Hodge has been in average form shield this year, no Brad I wont take that down, and to be fair, was in average shield form last year, that stays too Brad.

But the ego loves making runs against Queensland, and when their attack is lacklustre, which it is, he really likes cashing in.

Rogers is the 4th best opening batsman in Australia, but he made his 4th hundred for the year, to go with 5 half centuries.

Matthew Wade, back to back hundreds, is making a huge run to be Australia’s back up keeper, 2 tons at an average of 47 for the year.

Cameron White has been flirting with Australia this year, he comes back home for a hundred.

Rob Quiney was good enough this year to warrant selection for Australia’s 2020 side, and an IPL contract, but is still a nearly man in shield cricket with a 94.

Nick Jewell failed in this match, but has averaged over 40 with 600 odd runs at the other end of Rogers, and was the man who scored a 90 against a rampant NSWales in the shield final last year.

And Future PM David Hussey made ANOTHER half century.

Unless the Junction Oval wicket throws up a corrugated green strip, Victoria should win, or draw, with ease.

Should is the important word here, we all know that no one chokes like Victoria, but too lose from here, that would take something very special.

The search for a Baggy Green Pinch Hitter starts here

Posted by Moses on February 9, 2009 under NSW, QLD, SA, TAS, VIC, WA | 7 Comments to Read

Travis Birt, Unlucky

Travis Birt, Unlucky

Now that I’ve dropped Cameron White and David Hussey, the search has begun for a new number 6 and 7 in the Aussie ODI squad. I’ve taken a look at the scorecards from our Domestic F50 competition and compiled a list of all the batting performances where more than 20 are scored at greater than a run a ball. The most recent performances are listed first.

Birt, TR 86(66), 94(80), 67(56), 25(15)
Smith, DLR 29*(13), 28*(26)
Manou, GA 48* (39)
Warner 31(20), 97(54), 165*(112)
MG Dighton 59(58), 87(76)
Klinger 133*(128)
Ferguson, C 52(35), 32(26), 101(83)
Hopes J 76(61), 42(40)
Bailey, GJ 32(28)
Divin, MA 38(31)
Ronchi, L 80(64)
AK, Heal 43(34)
Quiney 42(40), 16(15), 92(85), 73(63)
Crosthwaite, AJ 52(49), 29(17)
Thornely, DJ 108(90)
Doropoulos, TP 92(75)
Henriques, MC 41(37)
Borgas, CJ 39(35)

I’ve quite possibly missed some, if anyone can point me towards a tool that pulls out domestic data rather than having to manually read the scorecards, that would be most appreciated.

Looking purely at the numbers, the standout domestic performers are:

Travis Birt from Tasmania

Travis is the form pinch hitter in the domestic T50 competition with his 7 innings yielding 363 runs at 60.5 and at a strike rate of 122! His returns this year are:

  • 1/11/08 56*(37) vs SA
  • 12/11/08 25(15) vs Vic
  • 29/11/08 34(38) vs NSW (the game where Warner scored 165*(112)
  • 07/12/08 67(56) vs NSW
  • 10/12/08 94(80) vs SA
  • 14/12/08 1(5) vs QLD
  • 07/02/08 86(66) vs VIC (this low scoring game Tas made 197 and VIC made 189)

David Warner from NSW

Dave has already been given a shot in the national setup with promising signs but too many failures. From his 8 starts there have been 3 good innings, yielding 89(43) on debut, 69(60) in his 4th match, and 22(29) in his 6th match when he was very unlucky to be run-out.

Combine these scores with Dave’s domestic highlights of 31(20), 97(54), 165*(112) and it’s easy to agree he has the destructive power hitting would really dominate the batting powerplay without the additional pressure of opening. I’d like to see Dave given a go down the order, where he’ll have a chance to perform without the added pressure of opening.

Callum Ferguson from South Australia

His stand out performances include 52(35), 32(26) and 101(83). It’s good to see him given a shot in the Aussie side, though I would have picked Birt first purely on the numbers. Callum played well last night before a Bucknor howler cut short his opportunity. Who did the BCCI ask to wipe him from their fixtures, and can we please be added to this list?

James Hopes from Queensland

In the two games that Hopes played for Queensland he’s opened in both, scoring 76(61) and 42(40). I’d like to see him given an extended run at the top of our order, his tight straight bowling will keep him in the squad regardless. Ideally we’d have a run of 2 or maybe even 3 ODI’s without changing our openers, wouldn’t that be nice.

Adam Voges from Western Australia

Conversely, Adam Voges has made the squad without topping a run a ball all year. Now he’s the one our selectors have picked to apply ‘pressure’ to Hussey and White, yet even if he were to continue his domestic results at the higher lever I don’t believe this would be enough. His 295 runs at 49.2 certainly doesn’t constitute bad numbers, but his strike rate of just 70.2 is not get our 300+ mojo back.

  • 8/10/08 13(35) vs NSW

  • 24/10/08 56(78) vs Tas
  • 16/11/08 104(119) vs SA
  • 26/11/08 39(72) vs VIC
  • 20/12/08 78(108) vs VIC
  • 23/12/08 5(8) vs NSW

If we were after a reliable batsman then Simon Katich would have to be the first picked, selecting Voges in this form to me makes little sense.

Victoria – cry me a river

Posted by Moses on January 23, 2009 under NSW, VIC | 3 Comments to Read

Man Cry

Man Cry

There’s much talk about poor Victoria who will be forced to field an under strength team in tomorrow’s Twenty20 final. They’ve even tried to recruit Adam Gilchrist, which would have been awesome for the spectacle, but they obviously didn’t front up with enough cash.

Here’s who they’ll be missing tomorrow night

  • Brad Hodge – avg 42, sr 136. Top Twenty20 run-scorer in Australia. Top Twenty20 run-scorer in the world. Injured in Elimination Final.
  • David Hussey – avg 32, sr 140. Second top Twenty20 run scorer in Australia. Restrictive bowler. Playing for Oz.
  • Cameron White – avg 35, sr 154. Destructive batsman and part time bowler.

Boo fúcking hoo. I realise it’s a new experience for Victoria to lose players to the national setup, but this is something that happens to us all the time. Here’s the first choice players on our books that we’ll be missing tomorrow night:

  • Nathan Bracken – avg 19, eco 7. Worlds top ranked ODI and T20 bowler. Man-hair model. Playing for Australia
  • David Warner – avg 29.5, sr 150. Destructive opening batsman, playing for Oz.
  • Michael Clarke – avg 23, sr 130. Quality middle order batsman, economical bowler. Injured playing for Australia
  • Brad Haddin – avg 20, sr 110. Quality keeper and agressive batsman in superb form.
  • Stuart Clark – avg 18, eco 6.6. Econimical and threatining bowler. Injured playing for Oz
  • Nathan Hauritz – avg 15, eco 6.3. Restrictive bowler. Playing for Oz.

I can’t work out why these articles only mention the absent Victorians. On the balance I’d say NSW are in fact more weakened through injury/abscence than Victoria, but obviously both teams are missing a lot of quality. Regardless, it’s hard to agree with the sob story coming from south of the border.

    Man Cry

    Man Cry

This evening will see Victoria and Queensland fight it out at the Gabba in a high stakes elimination final T20 match. The winner will not only gain entry to the lucrative world club championship, but also the privilege of a Twenty20 lesson from the top dog in Australian domestic Twenty20 cricket at the SCG on Sunday.

The Victorians are píssed off, as having their top players unavailable due to national service is a new problem for them. Now they’ll have to go without the services of Cameron White and David Hussey, who have a ODI on Friday and need their beauty sleep. There is no factual basis to reports that Cameron White Cried, again, at hearing the news, though it does sound likely.

Ryan Harris has been dropped from the national squad so will be available for Queensland, however they’ve replaced him with Mitchell Johnson so that’s probably worse for the New Texas Bulls, who’ll also be missing James Hopes.

CA have also denied requests for the players to be available of for the final, so NSW will be missing David Warner, Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin and Nathan Hauritz.

This could well end up a good experience, as Michael Hussey is keen to explain IPL loyalties come before the state that bought you up, so depending on which IPL teams make the club championship any Australian side could be without their stars when the big bucks are on offer.

Victoria squad: Brad Hodge (capt), Aiden Blizzard, Rob Quiney, Aaron Finch, Andrew McDonald, Matthew Wade, Adam Crosthwaite (wk), Damien Wright, Shane Harwood, Jon Holland, Bryce McGain, Dirk Nannes.

Queensland squad: Chris Simpson (capt), Wade Townsend, Ryan Broad, Lee Carseldine, Nathan Reardon, Glen Batticciotto, Craig Philipson, Chris Hartley (wk), Ryan Harris, Nathan Rimmington, Ben Cutting, Alister McDermott, Ben Laughlin.

Vics get back the momentum with one win in a row

Posted by jrod on January 8, 2009 under VIC, WA | 4 Comments to Read

This time they beat the Warriors.

Brad Ego made all the runs, a few others sort of chipped in.

Cameron White took a Australian Selectors erecting 4/10.

And Surprisingly Dirty Dirk and David Hussey did very little.

Well Future PM did put a little icing on it with 37 off 22, and two wickets.

But with the Vics making 180 and the warriors strangling themselves to 105 it was hardly a game where two super heroes like them were needed.

Dirty Dirk didn’t even feel the need to prove my assertion that he should have been picked ahead of harris in the 2020 side.

He doesn’t have to though, he is Dirty Dirk, he does what he please, when he please, and he don’t have to prove nuffin to no one.

Big ups to Andrew McDonald for playing in this game, I’m sure he would have been allowed to miss it, but he played anyway.

Also well done in the test Andrew, was a top effort with the ball.

And ofcourse Peter fucking Sizzle, you is on fire boy.

Have we won this tournament yet, i thought these things were supposed to be over quickly.

Australia gets a bit of red

Posted by jrod on December 30, 2008 under NSW, VIC | 3 Comments to Read

It is a good time to be Vicotiran.

Chris Rogers and Damien Wright sensed this.

    David Hussey has always known.

Oh, so you don’t believe me.

    Brad Hodge, test spot.

    Bryce McGain, test spot*.

    Cameron White, test spot.

    Peter Siddle, test spot.

And now, from no where, and here is where we thank Merv Hughes, Andrew McDonald.

How the fuck is this happening.

Is Merv beating Andrew Hilditch up.

Suddenly it is raining Victorians, and not before time.

Remember when a test player was injured, or dropped, or retiring, and you said to yourself, I think whatshisname could go straight in, shame he is a vic.

    No more.

Now even when there are other options, even NSWelsh ones, a vic goes in.

    White/McGain before Casson.

    Siddle before Bollinger.

Now McDonald before Noffke, Henriques, Geeves, North, and Smith.

There is a chance that there has been a huge mistake, and that Andrew McDonald is not the man who was supposed to be picked.

Congratulations to Andrew, and lets hope we can get a Vic to stick in the side for a while.

*He did get a spot, if not a test.

    Welcome to FPM’s playground

Posted by jrod on December 28, 2008 under TAS, VIC | Be the First to Comment

Australia’s Hussey may have lost all semblance of form.

But Victoria’s is still simmering along nicely.

While hundreds have been very hard for him to grab in 4 day cricket.

Apparently all the extra time is what has been bugging him.

15 overs is all it took him, and Xavier Stutter Ball Doherty may never be the same again.

    100 off 47 balls.

He even did a double act, following up with the ball as well.

Actually a triple act, 2 wickets as well.

I propose the Big Bash be renamed in the man’s honour, The Future PM’s playground.

The man doesn’t man handle 2020 attacks, he cuts them down, he is like a 2020 spartan.

It’s as if the white ball has slept with his missus.

He is one huge part of why Victoria are the number one ranked domestic 2020 side in the world.

The other is the bearded barbarian Dirty Dirk.

Michael Dighton is a white ball run machine.

Dirty Dirk cleans up that mess in the first over.

George Bailey seems to live to fuck with Victorian bowlers.

DD wipes that cheeky smile off his face as well.

    Game over.

That is one hell of a double punch.

At least we know in this crazy world that somethings stay the same, Victoria have the mad skillz in 2020 cricket.

former warriors find better pay day

Posted by jrod on November 24, 2008 under VIC, WA | 6 Comments to Read

Chris Rogers burnt his home down on the 2nd day.

Well on the 4th day he burnt down the houses next door, the local school, the fish and chip shop and everything else he could pour petrol on.

Chasing 320 off 70 overs shouldn’t be easy, but with an over to spare and with two of the finest red nuts going around it was.

As if Chris Rogers killing the Warriors wasn’t bad enough, for most of the time the Future PM was with him.

Two former warriors coming back to town to steal the points.

    Must be heartbreaking.

It’s happened to us enough times though.

Rogers is now in the sort of form that Jesus would be jealous of.

    681 runs @ 88 with 3 hundreds and 2 50’s.

    Ouch.

At the other end Future PM David Hussey is getting the starts, showing the dazzle, but failing to cash in.

3 half centuries this year. 9 last year, and only one hundred in that time.

Should we be worried, probably not half centuries from him are better than hundreds by most.

But we shall keep watching it.

Now the Vics go to India with a skip in their stride.
